Westlaw UK’s Mobile Web App Frequently Asked Questions
Questions you may have about the new mobile web app.
What is a web app?
To you and me, it’s a version of a website created for use on smart phones and tablets. A big advantage is that it allows us to make adjustments and enhancements to the web app without you having to download a new version.
Why can’t I find this on the app store?
Because it’s a mobile website (m.westlaw.co.uk) as opposed to native app (angry birds). Any device may view the site as long as you have a modern web browser by simply visiting m.westlaw.co.uk.
But the video shows an app tile?
The bookmark (tile) allows you to bypass the log in and start researching straight away (once you’ve logged in for the first time). The ‘book marking’ or ‘save to desktop’ process slightly differs depending on what device you have.
I don’t remember my/have a username and password?
To get reminded or issued with a username and password, you can contact your account manager or our customer services team at email@example.com
Do students have access?
Yes. The mobile website was very much designed with students in mind and we support Shibboleth authentication. https://m.westlaw.co.uk/?ukfed=true The log in experience will be similar to that for the desktop application and your students simply need to authenticate with their IDP in the usual way. Visit https://m.westlaw.co.uk/?ukfed=true to log in. The log in experience will be similar to that for the desktop application and you simply need to authenticate in the usual way.
What happens if I go to m.westlaw.co.uk on my desktop?
You will view the same site as you would on a mobile device (m.westlaw.co.uk) – but we recommend that you use the standard version when researching on a laptop or desktop for an optimal experience.
Is the ‘my folders’ on the web app the same as on my desktop?
Yes. The foldering function is interlinked. Therefore if you folder a document using the mobile web app, it will appear in your folders the next time you log in to the Westlaw UK desktop service and if you folder a document while using your desktop it will appear in your folders on the web app.
How do you access it? Is there a link at Westlaw UK?
Initially you will need to visit m.westlaw.co.uk or click on the link on the westlaw.co.uk/gomobile site when using a mobile device. Once you have saved or bookmarked the mobile web app, you can access through the bookmark tile.
How much does it cost?
Access is free with your Westlaw UK subscription.
